My goal with this website is not to reinvent the wheel and teach you everything there is to know about SIBO. My focus is on helping people recognize their power to heal SIBO through cooking and a healthy mindset.  For more information and inspiration, please leverage the resources below.

SIBO Experts

I see a lot of people in SIBO FaceBook groups seeking simple answers to their newly diagnosed SIBO or increasingly painful symptoms. Sadly, there isn’t an easy answer! It’s different for everyone.

Most important to know is that you cannot cure SIBO with diet alone. A low FODMAP diet might make you feel better, but it won’t solve the underlying problem. And in my personal and professional experience, neither will just taking antibiotics. Detoxification and elimination are key as well, and require additional steps and supplements.

To avoid a lot of wasted time, money and frustration, I suggest that you work with a knowledgeable expert to determine the most effective protocol for you. Surprisingly, naturopaths and functional medicine practitioners (both MDs and nutritionists) often know a LOT more about SIBO than conventional GI doctors. The professionals below are highly respected, and can be trusted to provide accurate, comprehensive, up-to-date information. Some provide care services as well.

Dr. Alison Siebecker, ND

Dr. Siebecker is one of the original experts in this field. Her website is chock-full of useable information and a great place to start understanding more about SIBO. She also has a great app that I use every single time I go to the store. (See Tools.)

Inspiration

Once you understand and embrace your own power to transform illness into vitality, the process becomes less of a grind, and much more exciting. These are a few of my favorite books and authors on the subject of healing AND EMPOWERMENT. I refer to these often, to keep myself motivated (and accountable) on my own journey toward optimal health.

The Hidden Message in Water, by Masuru Emoto

A book about the impact of our thoughts and feelings on physical matter. You will start to see how the energy of your focus literally changes your biology.

Dying to be Me, by Anita Moorjani

A woman who experienced a near-death experience then complete recovery from cancer. Her story is famous among oncologists who could find no biological reasons for her spontaneous remission.  But she is extremely articulate and persuasive about the spiritual factors involved in her healing.

Mindful Self-Discipline, by Giovanni Dienstmann

This book is a game-changer. Giovanni offers a tangible path toward self-empowerment and overcoming obstacles to whatever it is you’re trying to achieve in life. I think everyone in the world should read this book!

Breaking the Vicious Cycle, by Elaine Gottschall

This book is a classic when it comes to understanding and pursuing gut health. Elaine pioneered the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD), prescribed to reverse a wide variety of gut disorders. This diet can immediately reduce GI distress by depriving bad bacteria of the food it needs to overpopulate the gut.
